Makery Manager (Retail Manager)
Job Summary and Mission:
The Makery Manager role contributes to Buff City Soap’s success by helping lead a team to create and maintain the Buff City Soap standards. The Makery Manager is required to regularly exercise discretion in helping manage the overall operation of the makery. A majority of time is spent supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions (i.e., hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, staffing and scheduling), ensuring client satisfaction and quality of client experience, monitoring and motivating staff to achieve performance goals, handling minor maintenance issues, ensuring the cleanliness of the makery, and managing safety and security within the makery including cash management. The Makery Manager is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Buff City Soap principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Client Satisfaction -Ensuring exceptional client satisfaction in the store.
- Developing and coaching employees to provide amazing client experience.
- Following up swiftly on client concerns or issues.
- Putting the client experience first before any other responsibilities.
- Leadership-Communicating goals for the team, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
- Demonstrates a calm demeanor during periods of high volume/unusual events.
- Consistently sets a positive example.
- Displays a “client comes first” attitude by holding team members accountable for delivering exceptional client service.
- Drives company metrics by developing action plans.
- Directly motivates and instructs the employees by implementing company programs.
- Manages with integrity and honesty and promotes the culture, values and mission of Buff City Soap.
- Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates responsibilities to team members to ensure smooth flow of operations.
- Provides coaching and direction to the team to achieve operational goals.
- Constantly reviews the makery metrics to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Directly responsible for production, cleanliness, maintenance, sanitation and organization of the makery.
- Makery Managers are required to produce product, clean, maintain, and sanitize equipment
- Community Outreach and Brand Awareness
Planning and Execution
- Developing strategic and operational plans for the makery team, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Manages makery staffing levels to ensure employee development and maintain stores operational requirements.
- Identifies and prioritizes communications and uses discretion to filter communications to the makery team.
- Communicates clearly, concisely and accurately.
Business Requirements
Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Adherence to applicable wage and hour laws for nonexempt team members and minors.
- Responsible for the proper handling of makery funds and holdings including cash drawers, checks, electronic data, safe deposits and client account information.
- Uses all operational tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence in the makery. Tools include labor guidelines, reports, cash management and inventory management.
- Utilizes financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in club performance.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage store operations independently
- Ability to manage effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple situations simultaneously.
- Ability to manage resources to ensure that established service levels are achieved at all times.
- Ability to sell and effectively teach sales skills.
- Interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of client service techniques.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel or crouch.
Experience:
- Management: 1 year (Preferred)
- general manager: 1 year (Preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $40,000.00 per year

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Customer service: 1 year (Required)
- Retail Store Managers: 1 year (Required)
