MS Modern Homestead ? Project Learning
PLT (Project Learning Tree) is sponsored, nationally, by the American Forest Foundation. Mississippi PLT is sponsored by the Mississippi Forestry Commission, the Miss. Forestry Association, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the MS Dept. of Environmental
Quality. PLT workshops are unbiased, fun, and hands-on they are designed to use the forest as a “window on the world” to help students explore the environment and to make informed decisions about complicated environmental issues.
Six-hour PLT workshops are designed for educators — public and private school teachers, homeschoolers and non-formal educators such as scout and 4-H leaders. Teachers can receive 0.6 of an hour CEU credit. I am a CEU provider to Mississippi College. They charge a $10 processing fee.
The workshop consists of a team of facilitators modeling three activities from the PLT Pre-K-12 Activity Guide or a Secondary Education Module, followed by a “hike through the guide” during the morning session. After lunch, the participants will be divided into two teams. Each team will select and prepare an activity, which they will present to the class during the afternoon session. We will conclude with a visit to the resource table, where teachers can collect a stack of free “goodies” (posters, coloring books, etc.) for classroom use.
All who complete the workshop will receive a 400 page, 96-lesson plan PLT pre-K-8 Activity Guide. High School teachers will, additionally, get one of the PLT Secondary Education Modules (there are five in the series. We supply one free).
We give away door prizes and “fabulous prizes” (trinkets) throughout the workshop, just to keep things lively.
We furnish refreshments for a mid-morning break.
